Good coaching starts with believing in someone before they believe in themselves.

I'm Mike, an RRCA-certified running coach and ultrarunner based in Rochester, Minnesota. I got into coaching the same way most people get into running — through community. I've seen firsthand what happens when someone is surrounded by people who genuinely expect more from them than they expect from themselves, and that's the environment I try to create for every athlete I work with.

My coaching philosophy is built around the person, not the plan. Fitness is a byproduct of consistency, and consistency comes from training that fits your life, builds your confidence, and makes you feel capable. I don't hand athletes a template and send them on their way. I ask questions, listen, and build something that reflects who they actually are as a runner right now, and where they're headed.

I've volunteered and served as pace team coordinator at races across the Midwest because I believe the Rochester, Minnesota running community, and the broader community of Midwest runners, is something worth showing up for. Do you coach beginner runners?

Absolutely. Some of the most rewarding coaching relationships start with someone who has never run a mile. Whether you are working toward your first 5K or your first marathon, we build a plan that meets you exactly where you are.

Do you offer online running coaching?

Yes. Most Mythical Mile athletes train remotely. Coaching is delivered through a structured training platform with regular check-ins, so it works no matter where you live in the country.

What distances do you coach?

Everything from 5K to 100-miler. Road, trail, and ultra running are all within scope. If you have a goal race in mind, we can build a plan for it.

How is Mythical Mile Coaching different from a generic training plan?

A downloaded plan does not know your schedule, your history, or what happened last week. Every Mythical Mile plan is built specifically for you and adjusts as your training evolves.

Do you work with masters runners or athletes returning from injury?

Yes to both. Training older athletes and guiding return-to-run progressions requires nuance and patience, and it is some of the most meaningful work we do at Mythical Mile.
